It never ceases to amaze me that the people who call me a snowflake for arguing that children shouldn't be kept in cages, the attorney general has to uphold Supreme Court rulings, that bullying and warmongering aren't presidential activities, etc. are the ones who cry foul over a black woman being cast as Ariel, the Little Mermaid, in Disney's upcoming adaptation. This is ridiculousness to the nth degree and if you look at most people's objections, they're downright racist and beyond the whole "ruining my childhood" standard lament. Of course, most of those are rooted in sexism or racism anyway.
I hope Disney casts ALL of their upcoming live action films with people of color, LGBTQ actors and people of varying abilities. It's only fair after such a long history full of white characters and, yes, plenty of racism to make up for. I've seen people arguing for Terry Crews or Idris Elba to be King Triton and I have to say... I'm cool with that, cool cool cool. Fangirling aside, this is the dumbest thing I've seen people get mad about this year. Snowflakes? Really?
Get over your temper tantrum and start caring about things that actually matter. I can't wait to see Halle Bailey in the role and I've already decided to be Ursula this Halloween to celebrate. How about you?
