Four years ago, I was a big supporter of Bernie Sanders. I tried really hard to see him in person (and was almost close enough in line to do it!), donated to his campaign, volunteered for him and still have his sticker on my car. I believe in Bernie and I think he's done a lot of great things for this nation, but I'm not longer sure that Bernie is the candidate America needs. So now that he's announced that he'll probably run for office if he's the best candidate against Trump, I'm really not sure how I feel.
I really hated how clueless Bernie was about issues pertaining to people of color or women. When people asked him why Hilary was asked questions about her clothes and hair while he wasn't, he scoffed that it wasn't imortant, totally ignoring the sexism she faced that he didn't and proving how out of touch he was with the women of this nation. I think he did learn a lot during his campaign, and maybe he grew from that, but is he the person who can unite the people of this country?
I'm looking at Beto O'Rourke, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, people who are young (I'm not ageist, but a young woman president would be a nice change) and in touch with the people whose lives they will affect most. Those are the kinds of candidates I'm hoping will run against Trump. How about you?
