Yesterday, Monday, Rahm Emanuel; who wants to be the mayor of Chicago, got booted from the ballot by two members of a three member state court of appeals who ruled --"We conclude that the candidate neither meets the the municipal code's requirement that he have 'resided' in Chicago for the year preceding the election in which he seeks to participate nor falls within any exception to the requirement."
I am not a fan of Mr. Emanuel, but this court ruling, saying, in so many words, that Mr. Emanuel is not a son of Chicago is wrong and it is not justice. The man is Chicago, brash, profane, pushy as hell, arrogant, with presence that crowds the stage and sucks up more than a fair share of oxygen. The man is a Chicago politician, was a Congressman from Chicago, was Chicago in a Chicagoan's White House. For a court to rule that he is not a Chicagoan is to rule that he is a homeless nomad. Yes, the ruling is mad.
Mr. Emanuel is looking to the state Supreme Court for the restoration of sanity.
