Fat head conservatives are different from you and me?
There is a new scientific study out by University College London researchers that reports the brains of the right-leaning conservatives have "big amygdala, small anterior cingulate," larger 'fear centers'.
Let me repeat that -- University College London researchers say brains of the right-leaning people have big amygdala, small anterior cingulate. In other words, that the right winger are different from you and me. Their "brains are structured differently than the brains of other people."
Reports Salon -- "The investigation, led by Geraint Rees, focused on 92 individuals in the U.K. -- 90 students and two members of Parliament.
Specifically, the research shows that people with conservative tendencies have a larger amygdala and a smaller anterior cingulate than other people. The amygdala -- typically thought of as the "primitive brain" -- is responsible for reflexive impulses, like fear. The anterior cingulate is thought to be responsible for courage and optimism. This one-two punch could be responsible for many of the anecdotal claims that conservatives "think differently" from others.
One thing that ticks me off a little about studies like this is the claim there there is a biological explanation, justification, for conservatives behaving like jackasses. It shifts the responsibility for their foolishness to a biological deficiency.
Now what? Are suppose to pity Palin? And accept her for the way she is? Are we suppose to back way from Beck and say, "God and biology made him stupid?" Are we suppose to hush when Rush shows his ass, and say, "Oh poor, Limbaugh, he can't help himself? He was born with a fat 'primitive' brain?"
