Anyone who thinks that the stink that the state of Arizona has caused is because it is fighting illegal immigration is a slow learner. Arizona has picked a fight to determine who is going to control the West, the old guard or the new, the Anglos or the Hispanics. It is a numbers game -- the size of the population -- the size of the future voters rolls. The Arizona so-called anti-illegal immigrant law is written to make it clear that the power structure wants to discourage Hispanics from coming to the state to move in, or to visit, and to make the Hispanics already in the state to feel unwelcome, with the hopes of driving them out -- by expanding the powers of the police to be able to stop, question, harass, detain, any Hispanic looking person, and to lock up and fine any Hispanic looking person who can not prove that either he is a citizen or is in the country legally. Under the new Arizona law, anyone unable to produce documents showing they are allowed to be in the U.S. could be arrested, jailed for up to six months and fined $2,500. Arizona has gone beyond the pale.
Of course the governor of the state says, "there will be no racial profiling." The police have the power to stop anyone who they think might be an illegal. Well, if the Arizona cops took the governor at her word, the enforcement of this law would make for an even worse situation, a far worse a situation than most people who think that this law is bad, believe that it will now create. Because the cops could exercise the power, that this evil law gives them, to stop any and every American, and demand to see their papers. How is this possible? Do you know how many Europeans there are in this country illegally, because their visas have expired? How many Canadians? How many Israelis? This jackass of an Arizona law, gives the Arizona's cops the power to stop every European looking person, every French looker from Canada, every Jew, who they might think might be a foreigner, and demand their papers! Of course South Asians, Africans, East Asians, and Australian -- looking people could be stopped too. These so-called foreign-looking persons could be American citizens. For an American state to pass a law that authorize its police to stop an American, for no other reason than to demand to see his papers is the most unAmerican of unAmerican notions. Again, I say: Arizona, shame.
