I'm really embarrassed to hear this, but glad to be more informed. Thanks for keeping us updating about the health care situation in the US.

Ditto. I'm not shocked but I'm still pretty angry. That this can be done at all is an outrage to democracy, human rights, and not just our health care system but the justice system itself.

An update to Niki's article: the new healthcare legislation, by forcing insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions, has addressed this issue. Classifying 'exposure' to domestic violence as a pre-existing condition in the first place was not only callous but stupid. Thank goodness victims won't have to worry about receiving medical treatment.
