Senator Tom CoburnSenator Tom CoburnMuch admiration and applause for the comments made recently by Oklahoma Senator Tom Courbon during a recent town hall meeting, and politicians should take notes.  His reason, civility and logic should be commended, and if others in the legislature take his stance a lot could be accomplished in Washington.  It is a great step in the right direction.

Coburn, according to CNN, was quoted as saying, in reference to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, "Come on now, she is a nice - how many of you all have met her?  She is a nice person. Let me give you a little lesson here, I hope you will listen to me. Just because somebody disagrees with you doesn't mean they aren't a good person."

This rhetoric is such a breath of fresh air, and is an incredibly true statement.  Yes, many citizens will differ in opinion, but if civility exists, and civil discourse takes place, then results will flourish and problems will be solved.

Another interesting quote from Senator Coburn, according to CNN, states, "What we have to have is make sure we have a debate in this country so that you can see what's going on and make a determination yourself.  So don't catch yourself being biased by Fox News that somebody is no good. The people in Washington are good. They just don't know what they don't know."

This shot at Fox News is a rare move by a conservative Senator, but one has a hard time arguing that point.  To say Fox News is even close to objective would be a complete stretch, and the American citizen has to respect his honesty.  It takes a lot of courage to stand up like he has, especially when it won't be very popular statement among conservatives or their main cable station.
