Yesterday, Sunday, WikiLeak, the whistle blowing web site, and the New York Times, The Guardian of the United Kingdom, and Der Spiegel. a magazine published in the Germany, released to the public what can be called the Afghan War's Pentagon Papers,. a huge library of secret American military and intelligence reports, covering the six-year period from 2004 to 2009, that reveal the raw truth of the war, the raw truth and no spin.
Haven't we been here before? A far off war in a far off place? Supporting a corrupt regime, headed by a wolf pack of thieves? So many deaths, innocent deaths? So much needless loss of American blood? And on top of it all, the leaked truth that shoots down official lies? And the White House shrieking like a bird with its feathers caught in a fan?
America needs smarter leaders to conduct a smarter fight against al Qaeda and its Taliban movement. The mistake was that Bush stumbled in Afghanistan, and Obama is stumbling too. America's policy should be to support those who are with us in the fight against Al Qaeda, and not to to go into places with the failed policy of nation building, especially in places where the local people have failed to have ever built a nation.
When Bush entered Afghanistan, there was the Northern Alliance, which was at war with Al Qaeda and its local Taliban. If Bush had any sense, which is something he showed constantly that he was lacking, he would have assisted the Northern Alliance, which would have required a relative small American force, gotten those who attacked us, and gotten out, and left Afghanistan to the Afghans.
Obama needs to get out of Afghanistan. Everyday that he keeps troops there, he is needlessly spilling American blood and is destroying the lives of innocent Afghan people, and he is helping Al Qaeda in its war for the hearts and minds of people whom the war is radicalizing. To those who worry about an Al Qaeda and Taliban victory in Afghanistan, the Afghans themselves are the only people who can defeat the Taliban. Muslim soldiers are the only force that can defeat al Qaeda on the ground. The people of Afghanistan must know this. All the U.S is doing in Afghanistan is making the corrupt Afghan President and the leaders of his regime richer, making America hated, and making Al Qaeda stronger.
