A Push for Single Payer Health Care Coverage
Representative Anthony Weiner from New York made a push in congress for a single payer,
Universal Single Payer Health Careuniversal health care coverage bill that offers a better solution to the health care crisis. The single payer plan is based on the basic idea of eliminating private insurance companies from the health care arena all together which puts patients first, saves money, and takes the greed of the insurance profiteers off of the table and ultimately is the plan that appears to be the most popular among the majority of American citizens, health care workers, and several Representatives.
So, why are we not fast tracking this bill to the White House? Confusion among some in the general populace about what such system would really look like created by the hysteria of the far right who are determined to defeat health care coverage for Americans at any cost together with the the “Politics As Usual” mindset that tries to give in to these extremists with compromises that cater too much to big business and does not do enough to protect the American people.
So what would a universal, single payer health care plan look like? Medicare, which has provided coverage for our seniors for decades, is a single payer system. At the basic level, employees and employers pay a simple pay roll tax instead of paying premiums to costly, ineffective private insurance companies. US citizens are then covered for medical treatment. It is that simple. Since every health care provider, clinic, and hospital would be getting paid by the same single payer agency, there would be no limit to which doctors you would be able to choose and no gaps in coverage if you move, change jobs, or lose a job. With this plan every American would have vital life saving health care regardless of the size of their employers, preexisting conditions, or employment status.
Further, with the administrative waste alone that would be filtered out by a single payer system totaling in excess of more than $400 billion, the plan would pay for itself, with universal coverage, without adding to the national debt
States such as Vermont and California have made great headway on creating a single payer system for their states, and it has passed state legislation twice in California only to be vetoed by the Republican Governor. A single payer, universal health system is a matter of basic human rights, it is a simple and effective plan, and it is the right plan for America. So is the argument of Rep. Weiner who is making a case for the Single Payer System in committee in the video at the link below:

Speaker Pelosi has agreed to let Rep. Weiner and other supporters of the Single Payer Bill to present it on the floor of congress for debate and a vote. It is time to take profit and politics out of the health care arena and focus on the health of the American people.
