Yesterday, President Obama made a speech on the need for the Senate to vote to pass the extension of unemployment benefits.
"President Obama Wants to Extend Unemployment Benefits Offering Relief to the Unemployed President Obama calls on Congress to take an up-or-down vote on extending unemployment benefits and (for the Republicans) to stop political maneuvering that Americans in need of assistance in limbo." See the video.
Today, with the addition of a new senator to replace the late Robert Byrd of West Virginia, the Senate is expected to pass the extension of unemployment benefits, which have been blocked by a GOP filibuster. Republicans do not want to see any improvement in the economy before the November election and are blocking, and or / have attempted to block, every measure by the governing party that could give the economy a much needed boost. The GOP view is that, as the economy improves their chances for good fortunes in November decrease, and as the economy stalls, their fortunes may increase -- And the Hell with how this affects millions (2.5 million) of Americans, whose survival depends on the extended benefits. The Senate GOP is saying: To Hell with those Americans, and they are saying to Hell with America.
