Yesterday in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Party of No, the GOP, said NO to the 9/11 heroes and victims.

GOP House members voted in a block to defeat the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, a Democratic bill to provide much needed funds for medical treatment to rescue workers and residents of New York City, sickened by World Trade Center toxic dust and debris at ground zero.

Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY) became frustrated with his GOP colleagues, citing them for their tactic in stifling the will of the majority, by using procedure, and stalling tactics to prevented the passage of needed legislation. The majority of the House supported the bill. The vote was 255-to-159, but the vote was short of the two-thirds total necessary for passage under the special rules that were used to bring the measure to the floor. The bill was brought to the floor under suspension of the rules, which allows the leadership to present a clean bill to the House, free of crippling GOP amendments. The Republicans used this procedural move, as their excuse to vote down the bill. This caused Rep. Weiner: to erupt --

"If you believe this (bill) is a bad idea, to provide health care, then vote no—but don’t give me the cowardly view that ‘if only it was a different procedure.'" See the video.
