Seriously why is the news still talking about the mosque? I tried to ignore it I really did...

well I certainly forgot about that 9/11 responders health care bill that the republicans rejected.
My opiinion is that another location would end the controversy. It offends me that the Imam is
insensitive to those who have lost loved ones at ground zero. Go somewhere else and we will
be happy.
I agree, what's that Imam getting so uppity about!?
I'm similarly offended by those other insensitive people and their demands about drinking fountains. My opinion is that another location would end the controversy. I mean, you can still drink water easily enough, just go find a "coloreds only" water fountain somewhere else and we will be happy.
Funny isn't it. Christianity built church's across the middle east in the wake of 13 crusades, across continents where is was forcefully made the local religion and in a democratic country, with FREEDOM of religion and religious group, following LOCAL rules and regulations draws the anger of others over the actions of a small extremist group.
Why not just say if a small group of religious fanatics does something that from now on the entire religion is painted black as a result. Should help us get rid of ALL religions pretty quick. Don't you agree?
My opiinion is that [accepting segregation] would end the controversy. It offends me that the [the reverend martin luther king] is
insensitive to those who have lost loved ones [in the civil war]. Go somewhere else and we will
be happy.

The primary issue is the uniform application of basic rights to all persons and citizens of this country; not simply when it is convenient or otherwise benign in nature. That the controversy exists at all is evidence of our disability to put into practice the very ideals we claim to engender; the politicians prolonging this trivial debate, espousing fear and the denegration of basic rights for political gain, are charlatans of the highest degree.
I personally find it amusing that Americans inherently link Islam to terrorism when they've funded the IRA for decades. I suppose its easier to hate dirty foreigners that people that look the same as you.
CERTAIN americans.. irish-americans who made it to the upper crust.. funded the IRA... show me where the US Govt funded the IRA
Americans with an "s", meaning the people of America, not American, without an "s" meaning the country or government.
The IRA fights for independence from the monarchy, the US fought for independence from the monarchy. We're on the same side
The IRA doesn't fight for independence from the monarchy. They fight a religious fight against the Protestants. They are Catholics. They are on the opposite side to most religious Americans, who are Protestant.
The English people living in the America fought for independence from the English government for tax reasons and nothing else. Before they had their independence they were still English.

What do you have against porn shops and strip joints?
ZING!
Eh, let's just get rid of all religious buildings... :P
The terroists have won. The American Christian fundamentalist fear mongers now drive the discussion, the airwaves and the direction of our country. They sync up very well with their radical counterparts on the Islamic side. Terroism, fear mongering, hate, and intolerance stink regardless of which religion happens to be sponsoring them.
Actually the Christians oppose the Islamic nutballs. The terrorist Islamicists and the leftist-socialists who oppose the war in Iraq, where many terrorists were killed, want to erect a monument to the Islamic triumph. Such a monument should not be permitted.
But who will oppose the christian nutballs?
Facts, like the existence of the 1st Amendment to the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of/from religion, do not support your totalitarian prohibition of the Mosque. If you don't like these freedoms guaranteed to us perhaps you would be more comfortable living in a different country, as the saying goes...
All religions should be considered a mental disorder and treated accordingly. Until we give up this superstitious nonsense we will always find ourselves arguing about illogical, conflicting scribblings that are considered "sacred" and "the truth" and typically used out of context by the truly ignorant.
Meaning you?
There are more things in heaven and earth Horatio...
You're just another blind sheep following your own religion. You can't divorce humanity from belief. We all believe something.... it's just that some have actually taken time to study, question, and form more well-rounded opinions that don't include exterminating others who do not agree. Because of course everyone who disagrees with you is a dumb dumb or "ignorant" - a word it seems only ignorant people like to through around.
Here is just a little example to show you quite clearly how your thinking is parallel to just that thinking you condemn.
Example:
Christian: The people who don't believe in Christianity are dumb and ignorant and will burn in hell.
Muslim: The people who don't believe in Islam are dumb and ignorant and deserve to die.
Atheist: The people who don't believe in Atheism are dumb and ignorant and deserve to be placed in a mental institution and be reindoctrinated.
Buddhism: The people who don't follow the teachings of the Buddha will never find inner-peace...
Sorry had to throw that last one in there.... but you get my point.
I want to thank the person who wrote this last post...I often hear arguments along the lines of, "All religions should be banned," and where I come from, that is the general consensus. So it is incredibly refreshing that someone was willing to point out the logical fallacies in these types of negative generalizations about religion. I often find that certain atheists practice the same intolerance that they condemn in religious people! I don't even need to be a religious person to disagree with those negative generalizations. The thinking is simply irrational. Certain atheists (and I say certain, because I don't want to make the same negative generalizations I condemn) equate "tolerance" with the elimination of all religions. Is that any more tolerant than the religions they criticize? And newsflash: a disbelief in God can be just as strong as a belief in God..both are beliefs of some sort. We all have beliefs that govern our decision-making; don't be guilty of thinking you believe nothing, whereas religious people believe in God. And one's disbelief in God can be just as hostile, intolerant, and hypocritical as beliefs held by religious people.
"Certain atheists (and I say certain, because I don't want to make the same negative generalizations I condemn) equate "tolerance" with the elimination of all religions."
Who are these "certain atheists" you speak of? Because I've never met or heard of any.

Humans are self-destructive by nature. Eliminate “religion” and we would find some other reason to hate each other.
Most people do not understand the implications of the mosque that is proposed to be built at ground zero, NYC. By Muslim 'rules' any territory conquered or ruled by muslims is muslim "forever"! By that I mean that all lands conquered by any muslim or ruled by any muslim is a muslin territory that "must' be reconquered for the glory of Islam. Sicily, Spain, Austria, Hungary, Israel and other contries being formerly under the banner of Islam is, by their rules, still an Islamic nation.
Further, since President Obama is of Muslim descent, he is ALWAYS to be considered by Muslims a muslim and by those 'rules' of Islamic law', The United States is now a Muslim state. The Muslim faith does NOT allow a person to change thier faith, He may choose to but, again, by those 'rules' he will always be a Muslim, as will his children etc.... They may be made the Christian equivilant of Excommunicated upon which the rest of the Muslim would is supposed to Kill him. The Difference in thier case is that the offender is still considered a Muslim (Blasphemer).
With this in mind, also understand that the site (Ground Zero), is considered by fundamentalist (terrorist facions of) Islam to be the site of a GREAT VICTORY. Putting a Mosque up there is a sign and a statement to all the world that the place Is now a Holy site and a part of Islam. Add to that there is not any Muslim population in the immediate area, and they would have to travel through areas that already have a more than adequate number of mosques to support the Muslim population and the area is zoned as a commercial area and not zoned for Religious temples. That in itself should tell you it is not being put there for a congregation of worshipers but for other reasons.
Understand that I persoally do not hate worshipers of Islam or other religions. I do seriously dislike those that murder in the name of thier God or beliefs. Whether they be Muslim, Christian, Athiest or other. I especially dislike those that murder innocents. Any one who disagrees with my point of view is welcome to do so on this forum. Just don.t say something about me thats false. That's something I dislike too!
Sometimes Namericans ask why people think they are dumb. The fact they have to ask more or less answers the question. Given, however, that balance seems essential, for every real dumb ass Namerican, there is a bright contemplative Namerican who unfortunately doesn't get the same press. A bit of information for the dumb ones to chew on, given the timing of the attack, it was mostly cleaning staff and low levelers in the towers, cleaning staff generally means immigrants. Immigrants mean minority groups. Lots of muslims died there, and catholics, etc etc. All the victims did have one thing in common though, human beings. Lets give them the respect of not turning their meaningless, useless, unjust deaths into 'moneda de cambio', or as we would say in English, bargaining chips. Grow up Namerica, and stop giving importance to the wrong things. Great comic. Love it.
