Polls are showing that senior citizens "are the most Republican-leaning age group." Why that it, I don't know. But I do know this: Seniors who depend on Social Security, Medicare, and on other programs, designed to help the elderly, if they vote Republican, they are doing so at their own peril.
Republicans and Tea Party leaders aim is to privatize Social Security as soon as they achieved enough votes in Congress to do so. This is no secret. Tea Party leader and movement founder Dick Armey has made this clear in a recent public statement. GOP House leaders; such as Paul Ryan, the ranking Republican on the House Budget have promised to do this at the first opportunity.
As today's Washington Post reports, "Several Republicans have revived the idea of privatizing the federal entitlement program, an idea that met with deep resistance when President George W. Bush proposed it five years ago."
According to a recent poll by Gallop," Fifty-three percent of seniors said they would vote for a Republican House candidate and 38 percent said they would opt for the Democrat." This is shocking. The Democrats must do a better job of getting message to seniors.
