Glenn Beck got interviewed by Katie Couric- Glenn Beck,the Rush Limbaugh/ Jon Stewart hybrid who can spin any story to fit whatever agenda and message he wants it to in the true tradition of our great communist hunter Joe McCarthy- was Joe McCarthy interviewed by award winning journalists of the time? Oh, yeah.

It’s McCarthy getting interviewed by TV personalities, reaffirming his belief that there are murderous communists in the state department and even quoting McBeth! (Which I have to give him mad respect for, but still, the guy was on a witch hunt).

He says: “I think John McCain would have been worse for the country than Barack Obama is.” Now that may come as a shocker to those who only know beck as a conservative comedian/ pundit, but Beck has been saying things for shock value for his entire career. He prefaced that by saying that he likes Hillary Clinton and that he very well may have voted for her over McCain anyway if she had been the Democratic nominee. Of late, Beck has led the charge to get Van Jones out of the administration by aggressively attacking him for his past and calling him out as an unelected “czar” for Obama- of course, leaving out the fact that every president promotes policy advisors to his staff (czar is purely a media term) and that Jones is a highly respected figure and published author in the green collar jobs movement.

But spinning damn near anything into whatever he wants is not reserved for Beck alone- Beck said he thinks McCain would have been worse than Obama. The next day the Huffington Post (that addictive liberal blog that has a way of spinning everything their own way…) prints this headline:

He didn’t say that Obama was better, just that McCain would have been worse. A slight difference, sure, but an important one meant to spin it into something more inflammatory than it is. It’s not that he likes Obama, just that McCain would have been worse. It’s like the Golden Rule comparison:

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you – Bible

Do not do to others what you do not want them to do to you – Confucius

People often say they are the same, but they aren’t. One is the negative version of the other. In the same way, the Huffington Post flips what Beck said into a headline where you are led to think that he, even in some small way, likes Obama. This is exactly the kind of crap that Beck does on his show. It’s the “you’re with us or against us” kind of argument that makes anyone who is not extreme sound like they are the enemy. It’s what McCarthy did in the 50’s, it’s how Beck got us to support or at least not care enough about getting rid of Van Jones, and it’s an unregulated tactic of headlines meant to draw readers…
